Dentures

With age, we tend to lose our teeth. You can also lose teeth because of serious ailments or trauma. Irrespective of the reasons behind this, they have to be replaced so that they do not lose out on their functionality and aesthetics.

What are dentures?

Dentures act as replacements for missing teeth. With dentures, you can replace single, multiple or your entire teeth concurrently. They are either acrylic or composed of ceramic, and enhance esthetics.

The base for supporting dentures includes your gums and jaw bone where your original teeth were positioned. They are secured by many ways; however, the fundamental one is a suction seal. Dental implants are used in many cases in order to give extra support and stability to dentures.

Types of dentures

Dentures are usually of the following types:

  • Partial denture which replaces one or multiple teeth but not all of them
  • Complete dentures are used to replace all your missing teeth
  • Removable
  • Fixed with the help of implants
  • Totally acrylic
  • Acrylic dentures with a cast-metal structure for strong support

Every patient has a unique case and it’s up to the dentist and the patient to select a viable prosthetic alternative.
